Budding young filmmakers aged 25 and under, are in with the chance to have their short film showcased on the silver screen at this year’s Coca-Cola Cinemagic International Film Festival for Young People in Belfast, in November. Young filmmakers from the UK and Ireland are invited to submit their films to the annual Cinemagic Young Filmmaker Competition which honours the best of young filmmaking talent across different genres.

Mac and Guitar Review

Over the last year we have covered a wide range of Mac focused guitar content. From the ability to record multilayer tracks with Garageband to full professional guitar solutions such as Guitar Rig 3. Apple offer one of the best platforms for budding guitarists to process and record their latest riffs and all at particularly low cost compared to dozens of stomp boxes and fancy amps.

The iPhone Guitar Toolkit

Sometimes you simply have to marvel at some of the apps that arrive on the iTunes Apps Store. My current app love comes in the form of the guitar toolkit. A really simple yet comprehensive suite of tools for guitarists of any level.

Xbox Live Update

  • August 11, 2009

Xbox have rolled out a major upgrade to the Xbox Live service. One of the key features of the upgrade is the ability for Gold members to purchase full Xbox and Xbox 360 games directly via the marketplace. Having had a look around the online store most of the games appear to be the platinum range and cost around the same price online (£19.99).

xboxFrom Thursday users will also be able to purchase new avatar clothes and items. I personally can’t see me parting with hard earned cash so my Xbox Live presence can have a new pair of jeans but each to their own.

The upgrade features a range of user interface improvements, the ability to rate content on the Marketplace and a new veteran rating for Gold members of long standing. Netflix support is also vastly improved with this update so here is hoping there is a UK offering very soon (as apparently Love Film is up for sale).

Microsoft have a few more updates in the pipeline, in the Autumn Xbox LIVE will see the addition of the following new features:

Facebook
Twitter
Last.fm

Although many of the features in this upgrade involve invitations to spend more money (or microsoft points) it is definitely exciting times for the Xbox gaming community. Although I personally use the system to get into Call of Duty games some of the arcade games are exciting, the fact that games like Battlefield 1943 can be downloaded as an arcade game would have been unimaginable 3-4 years ago.

Civilization IV : Beyond the Sword

We are already massive fans of Civilization IV Gold (check out our review) now Aspyr tempt us to expand further with Beyond the Sword. Sid Meier’s Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword focuses on the late-game time periods and delivers 12 challenging and decidedly different scenarios created by the development team at Firaxis Games.

Mac Mini Media Heaven ?

Having been a massive fan of the AppleTV a number of friends have been pushing me towards the idea of a Mac Mini media server. To date I have fought the idea mostly down to the cost and complexity of such a system in a family living room.
