The future of Digital SLR cameras in Moving Image arts looks even more optimistic with two new announcements by Canon. The first is the new 550D digital SLR camera that offers 1080p HD video at up to 30fps and 720p at 60fps. Filmmakers and budding young film professionals celebrated the successes of the 19th Coca-Cola Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival, after two action packed weeks of film screenings, workshops, masterclasses, and industry discussions, at a special awards ceremony on Friday 4th December.

If so, this year’s Coca-Cola Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People is currently selecting a jury panel of 10 to 18 year olds to watch and judge short and feature films. The panel will be required to watch all of the films that are being screened in competition during the Festival (18th Nov-4th Dec) and to choose a number of winning entries.
Young people, aged 16-25, keen to get an inside track on the film industry can do just that in December, as the Cinemagic ‘Talent Lab’, sponsored by Invest Northern Ireland, returns to Belfast as part of the annual Coca-Cola Cinemagic Film and Television Festival for Young People.
Promising to be a fantastic mix of creativity, fun and learning, the ‘Talent Lab’ will offer young people the chance to participate in a unique series of industry masterclasses on 3rd and 4th December, culminating in a special awards ceremony in Odeon Cinemas.
Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People and Coca-Cola HBC Northern Ireland are celebrating the continuation of their partnership for the next three years. The award-winning partners have been working together since 2004, highlighting the benefits of collaboration between business and the arts.
Budding young filmmakers aged 25 and under, are in with the chance to have their short film showcased on the silver screen at this year’s Coca-Cola Cinemagic International Film Festival for Young People in Belfast, in November. Young filmmakers from the UK and Ireland are invited to submit their films to the annual Cinemagic Young Filmmaker Competition which honours the best of young filmmaking talent across different genres.
Ireland’s 22nd Foyle Film Festival takes place from Friday 20-Saturday 28 November at venues throughout Derry City. The ‘Call For Entries’ to all filmmakers for the prestigious Light In Motion (LIM) Awards begins on Monday 1 June. This year the competition strand has been streamlined to four categories.
