The theme of the 21st Foyle Film Festival is ‘Cinema Closeup’, and reflects the tone of many of the films in the 2008 programme. All the movies screening in this year’s festival give fascinating glimpses into extraordinary stories – real and fictional.

Cinemagic 2008

The Cinemagic Film Festival programme has been launched and includes more than 100 film screenings and over 40 different workshops, competitions, masterclasses and film-related events. The Coca-Cola Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival For Young People opens on 13th November and runs until the end of November in various Belfast venues including Movie House Cinemas, Odeon and Queen’s Film Theatre.

Thanks to the lovely people at Cinemagic we attended tonight’s European premier of City of Ember. City of Ember (Walden Media) is based on the 2003 novel  by Jeanne Duprau.

Anyone who grew up in the 1980s and early 1990s will know that even back then music piracy was condemned. LPs and CDs would come with a tape and cross-bones stickers (see below) on the front and often also the back reminding us that copying music was a crime and in fact “killing in music”.

Wallace High School Moving Image Arts students this week had the unique opportunity of working with an award winning author and script writer this week. The class enjoyed an hour long workshop with Daniel Wallace, whose work includes Tim Burton’s ‘Big Fish‘.
