The error :
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/sitename/public_html/index.html on line 1

This error occurs in the index.html in the root of the website and also in the index.html within the ’site’ folder.

The error is easily fixed my removing the ? from the start and end of the xml code in line 1. Removing the ? will not effect the site (other than to allow it to appear).

iTunes UK developed a bit of a problem over the last few days when it started to censor even the cleanest of song titles. Users found that strange song titles were being censored in listing and search results. Songs Like “Smells like T**n Spirit” and “K****r Queen” were effected by the bug.

Apple are aware of the problem are currently working on a database fix to resolve the issue.

In the meantime you can enjoy trying searching for censored listings. Strangely although “Smells like T**n Spirit” is censored “Teenage Dirtbag” is fine. Have a search and post your findings below.

So far we have found some variations of :
Killer, Teen, and Hot all effected by the bug but there may be many more ?

{UPDATE} This issue is now resolved. It was good fun while it lasted.

Literally a few hours after the announcement that tomorrow will see the arrival of new MacBooks in store Apple have released an essential update. Yes, 1.2 is already available via software update The update contains software bug fixes for precision aluminum unibody enclosure MacBook and MacBook Pro notebook computers introduced in October 2008.

The update improves compatibility with external displays and includes a variety of software fixes. This update is recommended for all users of these systems. Given the machines are only shipping today you would have thought the 45 megabyte update could have been applied before they leave but it appears not.

Well, at worst it answers the “What will be the first thing I do when my new Macbook arrives?” question.

Elgato have updated their popular EyeTv software to .3.0.4. The update features a redesigned Auto Tune dialog with an additional Update Scan feature that adds channels without removing existing channels.

Other Improvements include:
Improved Editor : EyeTV 3.0.4 features a redesigned Editor with many usability improvements.

Support has been added for the following TV tuners:

• Pinnacle 80e, a USB stick that supports ATSC digital television and Clear QAM unencrypted digital cable, available in North America.

• Terratec Cinergy Hybrid T USB XS FM, a USB stick that supports DVB-T/PAL/SECAM/FM radio, available in Europe and Australia.

Bug Fixes
A problem auto tuning ATSC channels and updating the ATSC program guide with HDHomeRun has been resolved. A problem with very strong amplified DVB-T signals and EyeTV DTT Deluxe has been resolved. Reception of DVB-C channels with symbol rate 6956 kSyms/sec has been improved. A problem where EyeTV Hybrid (INT 2008) would lose signal when switching between the AV inputs, DVB-T and DVB-C has been resolved.

A problem where EyeTV Hybrid (US 2008) would display no signal on the AV inputs when timeshifting was deactivated has been resolved. A problem where EyeTV 250 Plus (2008) could not receive a signal after putting the Mac to sleep using the Apple Remote has been fixed.

General Update:
Improved EyeTV’s overall stability and performance.
A crash when manually adding channels has been eliminated.
Problems displaying text when the built-in Helvetica font has been disabled have been resolved.
Triggered AppleScripts now trigger as expected.
Several problems with Smart Guides and the “Episode Count”, “Episode Number”, “Channel Name”, and “Channel Number” criteria have been fixed.

In certain circumstances, the “Record All Matches” option for Smart Playlists would not record all shows; this has been resolved.

Playback
A problem in France where the Canal+ DVB-T channel would play back with artefacts and dropped frames has been fixed. Improvements have been made in the playback of H.264 broadcasts. For DVB-T radio in Norway, EyeTV can now tune to MPEG-4 radio broadcasts. Recordings made with EyeTV 3.0.3 and the original EyeTV USB no longer display a speaker icon overlay.

Exports
Problems with exports to Apple TV that repeated multiple frames have been resolved.

EyeTV 3.0.4 is a Universal application. It requires a Macintosh computer with built-in USB 2.0 ports, and Mac OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger) or later. We recommend Mac OS X 10.5.5 Leopard with all software and security updates installed.

Ever wondered what side of your brain you use most often ? well now the clever people at Yale University have completed a five year study and a simple test to help you work it out. Below is an image of a spinning girl. If you see her turning clockwise you are using the left side of your brain and if you see her turning counter clockwise yes you guessed it, you are using the right side.

Now, if you can see her turning both directions, and obviously not at the same time you are a member of only 14% of the population.

This seem to have been quiet on the digital creative front over the last couple of months. We had the massive build up to iPhone 3G, the new iTunes, Mobile Me and of course the new Apps Store. These have all been in some way quiet exhausting releases. We have the problems with iPhone pre-order, the problems with Mobile Me and then issues with the iPhone firmware.

Well the good news is things seem to be back on track and the love is back for all things Apple. Today I was able to view a number of different calendars at once on my iPhone. All nicely colour coded I could move events around easily. I was able to quickly take notes at a meeting and email a task to my current GTD application (Omnifocus). Yes I could have added the entry directly to Omnifocus but I needed to take notes separately but the mail rule makes everything integrate.

It looks, certainly after just a week that the battery issues with the iPhone are certainly improved I can last a full day with out fear of the dreaded no power icon appearing.

So, what am I to moan about ? lets face it most of the personal entries to DigMo! by both the current writer and the previous chap always had a cloud to their silver lining and we can’t let this post be any different. Well, here goes, it has been a year and where is the update for iWork ? Apple introduced Numbers over a year ago. A great little spreadsheet application that in so many ways is better than Excel but yet still lacks some basic features, the ability to rotate text being just one.

It is a slightly wimpish moan given the massive of new toys Apple have provided us with this summer and if I were honest I had to think to come up with one but I am now reassured I haven’t lost the ability to moan on demand and for this reason I have introduced a new tag to the DigMo! camp in the form of ‘iMoan’ That said, I’d still love to see an iWork update all the same ?

You may remember our post outlining our concern over the sheer amount of updates happening on the 11th July. We had the iPhone 3G launch together with collapse of the O2 upgrade servers. We had the release of the Apple iPhone 2 ROM albeit leaked a little early to some.

We had the update to the iPod Touch that didn’t make the 11th. We had the update to MobileMe that didn’t happen for us until 14th and not without problem and finally we had the global launch of the all new iTunes Apps store.

This is not a “I told you so” post by any means. Today MobileMe continues to cause problems, trial accounts in the UK charged and subsequently gaining an extra 30 days free. All .Mac customers will also enjoy a 30 day extension to their service this year.

Considering the vast array of new services being launched I am actually surprised things went as smoothly as they did. That said surely things could have been staggered. Have the Apps store up a day earlier, have Mobile Me running a week before the iPhone 2 software update ? We are used to Apple being relaxed and in control not having to issue apologies and excuses.

Moans and criticisms aside, how many companies offer all their customers a free month across the board ? I have to say my problems with MobileMe were not that critical, I was slightly annoyed at the slight misconception of push email but still I didn’t expect a full 30 days of service as compensation. Thanks Apple !

Heres looking forward to the next big launch, hopefully not all on the one day though.

I have to say My Name is Earl series 1 and 2 have been my favourite comedy shows in the last few years (series 3 is ‘ok’)

The series stars Jason Lee, Ethan Suplee, Jaime Pressly, Eddie Steeples, and Nadine Velazquez. Lee stars in the title role as “Earl J. Hickey,” a petty crook with occasional run-ins with the law, whose newly won $100,000 lottery ticket is lost when he is hit by a car.

While lying in his hospital bed after the accident, he develops a belief in the concept of karma when he hears about it during an episode of Last Call with Carson Daly. He decides he wants to turn his life around and makes a list of all the bad things he’s ever done. After doing his first good deed, he finds his $100,000 lottery ticket. He sees this as a sign and, with his new lucky money, he proceeds to cross items off that list, one-by-one, by doing good deeds to atone for them.[
