Well now you can manage these distractions with a great little app aptly named “Concentrate”.

Concentrate is a productivity app that lets you setup your Mac to remove distractions and let you focus on what you need to. It lets you block websites, quit apps, open apps, documents or folders, play sounds, speak reminders, etc.

To start, create an activity (design, study, write, etc) and choose actions (shown below) to run every time you concentrate.

When ready, just click “concentrate.” All your distractions will disappear and a timer will appear to help you stay focused.

The current release is 1.0, and with big plans for 1.X Concentrate is definitely worth keeping an eye on.

A number of blogs have listed the various applications to “have issues” and I have to say so far none of the applications I use daily have caused any problem.

One blog stated the Elgato Turbo.264 HD no longer works and to be honest this is only sort of correct. If you own a Turbo.264 HD you need to install Quicktime 7 (on the Snow Leopard DVD) as the new Quicktime X doesn’t offer customised exports. I realise this is perhaps a bit of a work around but I will make sure to post more information as I explore the new Quicktime options.

Also this week Facebook 3.0 for the iPhone and iPod Touch hit the iTunes store. The upgrade not only introduces massive UI improvements but also :

Belfast Exposed gallery has commissioned a new work in response to ISEA’s theme ‘Engaged Creativity in Mobile Environments’.

The project, Red Light, by artist Redmond Entwistle, considers the space that Belfast finds itself in between the unfinished work of the peace-process, and the phantom promises of the market economy.

The Red Light project brings together a gallery installation and three short films, also being screened in cinemas around the city.
The main gallery space of Belfast Exposed has integrated a sound and light installation, feeding live sound into the gallery from Belfast’s new shopping centre Victoria Square. On display are previously unpublished photographs from Belfast Exposed’s archive collection. The light in the gallery brightens and dims in response to the city’s ambient sounds.

The three short films which are also available online at http://www.belfastexposed.org anticipate some of the prospects and perils of the near future. Drawing on original interviews with professionals from the film and IT industry in Belfast, two industries through which the city hopes to attract investment and establish its position within an international pecking order of knowledge economies and creative industries.

The short films will also be showing at local cinemas:

From Thursday users will also be able to purchase new avatar clothes and items. I personally can’t see me parting with hard earned cash so my Xbox Live presence can have a new pair of jeans but each to their own.

The upgrade features a range of user interface improvements, the ability to rate content on the Marketplace and a new veteran rating for Gold members of long standing. Netflix support is also vastly improved with this update so here is hoping there is a UK offering very soon (as apparently Love Film is up for sale).

Microsoft have a few more updates in the pipeline, in the Autumn Xbox LIVE will see the addition of the following new features:

Although many of the features in this upgrade involve invitations to spend more money (or microsoft points) it is definitely exciting times for the Xbox gaming community. Although I personally use the system to get into Call of Duty games some of the arcade games are exciting, the fact that games like Battlefield 1943 can be downloaded as an arcade game would have been unimaginable 3-4 years ago.

“From the start of August, every O2 customer will be able to switch on text notifications within Twitter and receive replies and direct messages completely free. You’ll also be able to send updates to Twitter as part of your normal text message bundle or for the cost of a normal text.”

A fair usage policy applies to for Twitter texts of approximately 600 messages per month. It isn’t clear if you can turn it on for only direct messages (and not @replies). I am not sure if this has such a big attraction for iPhone users but mobile phones with no supported Twitter client it could be good news all round.

Probably the most exciting new feature the 3G offered over the first generation iPhone was GPS. The satellite feature on the iPhone was a big deal and I even managed to get an image republished on a number of sites, entitled “Creative use of iPhone GPS” it was snapped during day 5 of the newly fangled stage of ownership. Just twelve months on and it already feels old and and outdated such is the speed in which the iTunes Apps Store has evolved. Yes I still find Shazam stunning but so much more has happened, the twitter evolution has gripped the world, the apps are more mature and have become more and more useful in everyday life. A few months ago we covered our top 5 apps for education and even since then the choice and sophistication of what is available has continued to impress.

Even Apple’s own iTunes iPhone/Touch remote is a completely different animal from when it was reviewed by Automated Home this time last year. Now we have full AppleTV support using gestures.  We can now record voice notes, sync text notes, record video and immediately upload it to you YouTube.
