GE have a fascinating piece of technology on their site. The website demonstrates in 3d future energy technologies such including solar and wind turbine. The site is brilliant fun to use and has massive education potential both in terms of the science of renewable energy but also 3D video techniques.
This video features the real brains behind the DigMo! site in his first ever technology video cast :Watch out The Gadget Show !
The video is also available on our YouTube Channel.
If you are on a Mac and want to use the system with your built in iSight camera follow these simple steps. Firstly load up Safari and visit the GE Site here.
Click the File Menu in Safari and un-tick the ‘block pop up’ option. Once you have printed the solar panel marker click on the energy system you want to model.
You will be warned if you don’t have the latest version of flash installed. Once you have Flash 10 installed a popup window will appear asking for permission to use your mic and webcam. Click ‘Allow’.
You will probably be met with this screen :
Right click on this screen and select cameras from the drop down menu. The iSight Camera is not specifically listed but if you select the ‘USB Camera’ option the window will come to life with the view from your camera.

Now hold up the Solar Panel printout for the Augmented demo. It really is spectacular to watch with rotating sun, flying birds and more. A real step closer to a hologram. A really brilliant classroom demo for sure.
