Tuaw have discovered a brilliant new application in the offing for the popular Blackboard Virtual Learning Environment. The app for the iPhone and iPod Touch is not yet available on the Apple Apps Store but this video gives a little insight into how it will function.

The Blackboard Mobile App offers near immediate access to the learning platform and it will alert the student as course content is updated each time it syncs.

The good news is the application is already at the review stage with Apple so expect it on the Apps Store sometime soon.

Virtual Learning Environments are changing the way we teach and learn. Add to this the concept of cloud and mobile computing there are certainly exciting times ahead for education. The concept of ‘Cloud Computing’ offering the storage and editing of files online from any computer makes the idea of e-portfolios that bit more workable. No more having students ‘upload’ work, the tutor downloading it to mark and then offer the student feedback online.

The great the accessilibity options for any VLE the more likely users (both student and teachers) will use it. Lets hope we see a mobile application for the Moodle platform in the near future.
