Cinemagic Nominated for National Award
June 15, 2007
Cinemagic World Screen Festival for Young People has been nominated for a major national prize at The Charity Awards 2007, the UK charity sector’s most prestigious award scheme. The charity is the only one from Northern Ireland to have made the short-list!
Chosen from a long list of entries, the charity, which embraces the magic of film, television and digital technologies to educate, motivate and inspire young people through the medium of workshops, film screenings and industry led master-classes, has been shortlisted in the Arts, culture & heritage category. It will be hoping to pick up the coveted award at a star-studded awards ceremony in London on 21st June.
The annual Charity Awards ceremony, sponsored by the Charities Aid Foundation and The Times’s Public Agenda section, is the most high-profile event in the charity world calendar. Now in their eighth year, the awards recognise excellence in the management of charities, acknowledging the outstanding work and achievements of all charities, big or small, from across the UK and the tireless commitment of the people behind them.
The Charity Award judges have recognised the excellence of Cinemagic’s annual film festival, the largest and longest running film festival for young people in the UK and Ireland which hosts three weeks of film screenings, industry discussions, workshops, master-classes, competitions and special events for young people aged from 4 to 25 years old. If it wins its category, the charity will then be in the running to pick up the Overall Award for Excellence in Charity Management – a prestigious award given to the best of the category winners, won last year by Hibiscus.
The Charity Awards 2007 is organised by Charity Finance magazine, the leading business publication for the voluntary sector. The distinguished panel of judges includes Professor Ian Bruce, Director of the Centre for Charity Effectiveness at Cass Business School, Ian Allsop, Editor of Charity Finance magazine, Dame Jo Williams, Chief Executive of Mencap, David Harker, Chief Executive of Citizens Advice, and Maeve Sherlock OBE, Chief Executive of the Refugee Council.
Daniel Phelan, organiser of The Charity Awards 2007 comments:
“With more nominations than ever this year, the Charity Awards are a great illustration of how much fantastic work takes place within the sector. This year, many of our shortlisted charities are smaller, regional charities, which is illustrative of the huge contribution they make to the sector and the high standards they achieve. The Charity Awards is always a fantastic event attended by some of the most senior people within the voluntary sector and so it is with great anticipation that we await the results. By being shortlisted Cinemagic has already demonstrated that they are among the best-managed charities in the UK and I wish them luck on the night.”
