Cinemagic Young Consultants

June 11, 2007

cm.pngCinemagic is recruiting 20 young people aged 10 - 18, from all over Northern Ireland to take on the role of film consultants to help select the films for this year’s festival. The Coca-Cola Cinemagic World Screen Festival for Young People will take place in Belfast and surrounding areas from 16th November - 2nd December 2007. The award winning festival will be action packed with over one hundred film screenings including special premieres, international features, documentaries, shorts, foreign language films, industry masterclasses and competitions.

Over the course of a three day workshop beginning on Monday 2nd July the young consultants will work with the film programmer and the Cinemagic team to help steer the choice of films for the festival, as they watch and critique films from around the globe!

If you are a young budding film critic or you know anyone who would enjoy the opportunity to spend three days from Monday 2nd July- Wednesday 4th July (inc) working with Cinemagic in Belfast, this is a fantastic opportunity to meet other like-minded young people, and have fun deciding the content of the largest film festival for young people in Northern Ireland and the UK.

The lucky young people who become film consultants will also contribute ideas for the festival programme, and help with the marketing and promotion of festival events.

Chris Shaw, Cinemagic Film Programmer explains what the young consultants can look forward to:

“Cinemagic is dedicated to providing new and exciting opportunities for young people with all interests in film, whether they want to simply enjoy new films or take their interest to a new level and explore career options in the film industry. The young film consultants will have the opportunity to watch international films they would not normally have access to, and the panel will represent the youth of Northern Ireland at this year’s film festival taking place in Belfast in November.

We are looking forward to bringing together a group of enthusiastic young people to work on the festival from July through to December. The three day workshop will provide lots of opportunities for discussion and debate and provide a lively platform for young people to interact with each other and increase future paths of communication for social and educational purposes.”

How to apply to be a Young Consultant:
Applicants aged 10-18 with a keen interest in film and the enthusiasm to work within a group for an initial 3 days this July and then on a regular basis from July- December, should apply to be considered for a place by writing a letter telling Cinemagic why they would like to be a Cinemagic Young Film Consultant, the name of their favourite film and what they like about the film. This information, along with name, address, age, telephone number, email address (if applicable) and name of school should be sent to Claire Baxter, Cinemagic, 49 Botanic Avenue, Belfast, BT7 1JL or claire@cinemagic.org.uk
