EyeTV Update: Full Screen and AppleTV

April 18, 2007

style.pngElgato have released an update to their EyeTv application. As well as a few bug fixes EyeTv 2.4 will also offers a number of other additional features. As many readers will know we are massive fans of the EyeTV More…software’s ability to not only pause live TV, record and schedule recordings but also the range of export options the application offers.

eye.jpgThe export to Apple TV adds a new button along the main tool bar and offer 720×404 Mp4 output. Even if you are not an TV user the ability to send high eye.jpgquality output directly to iTunes is a great advantage. Despite the drawback of additional storage requirements (which are not too significant) making higher quality portable recordings is very welcome (see here). Exporting to TV is simply a matter of pressing the tool bar icon and EyeTV does the rest.

Manage Full Screen Mode
2.4 also brings another welcomed update in the way it manages full screen mode. I personally run two monitors on my G5, one my dell monitor the other being my TV. I struggled running the ‘full screen menu’ mode offered by EyeTV as it insisted on displaying on my smaller dell monitor even when EyeTV was being shown on the larger screen. 2.4 offers complete management of the screen modes as well as the ability to control the menus using the Apple remote.

EyeTV 2.4 adds more features to the Program Guide. Program description texts supplied by tvtv are now considerably more detailed. Areas of the timeline in which broadcasts are scheduled for recording are now highlighted in pink, providing the user with a quick reference. A progress bar now tracks Program Guide updates, an improvement that is particularly valuable for users of satellite solutions with many channels for which a large amount of program data must be transferred.

Users with multiple monitors can now specify on which monitor the Full Screen Menu is displayed and whether the remaining displays should be darkened. Those who frequently use the Full Screen Menu will also appreciate that they can now place the Mac in standby using an EyeTV remote control or the Apple Remote.

Elgato rounds off this free update with numerous bug fixes as well as added support for TerraTec’s Cinergy T XE, a USB stick for DVB-T reception, and Hauppauge’s WinTV Nova-TD, a USB stick for DVB-T reception with two tuners and Antenna Diversity.

Look out for the latest release via the automatic software update. If you are new to EyeTv then visit the Elgato site for more information.
