London Film School MA
May 1, 2007
The London Film School MA Screenwriting programme, which was launched in 2005, has been accredited by Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the audio visual industries, as one of a small number of approved Screenwriting courses in the UK. This accreditation brings with it the opportunity to receive bursaries for UK qualifying students.
The MA at the London Film School is a unique one-year screenwriting programme within the context of a diverse filmmaking community. The emphasis is on developing the writer’s original voice through small group and one-to-one mentoring from industry professionals.
Places are limited to 12 students and the application deadline is 1 June.
The school is particularly interested in recruiting students who have been writing in other areas, and who would like to address screenwriting as a specialisation; writers who have written for theatre, in fiction, or journalism.
The programme is built on the idea that each student should have a working relationship to a mentor screenwriter throughout and also brings in a range of high profile visiting lecturers.
Visiting lecturers and mentors have included;
Mike Leigh (Vera Drake, Secrets and Lies)
Tony Grisoni (Brothers of the Head, Tideland).
Laurence Coriat (Me Without You, Wonderland).
Richard Kwietniowski (Love and Death on Long Island, Owning Mahoney)
Olivia Hetreed (Girl With a Pearl Earring)
Pawel Pawlikowski (My Summer of Love, Last Resort)
Udayan Prasad (My Son the Fanatic, Gabriel and Me)
Bille Eltringham (Mrs Ratcliffe’s Revolution, This is Not a Love Song)
Thaddeus O’Sullivan (Ordinary Decent Criminal, December Bride)
Don Boyd (Andrew and Jeremy Get Married, Twenty One)
Jack Gold ( The Brief, Naked Civil Servant)
Andy Paterson (Beyond the Sea, Girl With a Pearl Earring)
Rebecca O’Brien (The Wind That Shakes The Barley, Ae Fond Kiss)
“LFS is a vibrant, hands-on film-making environment, producing 160 films a year. Where better to learn about the practical craft of screenwriting?” Mike Leigh, writer/director and chairman/alumnus of the London Film School
“The depth and quality of support and feedback is astonishing and the standard overall impressively high.” Marilyn Milgrom: External Examiner
