O2 iPhone 3G Upgrade (Not Working)

July 7, 2008

O2 have released their online upgrade service for current iPhone customers. The service is under massive pressure and we are currently on our third upgrade attempt, but still great news all round.

What we get though :

It turns out the masses are having problems http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7512867#7512867 The upgrade website is not down (9.40).

It appears only new customers were able to order ? no one I know who was upgrading was successful. Very Frustrating. Although allowing everyone to hit the servers at the same time, you kinda expected it.

I’ve been trying since 8am. Only one person on the Apple discussions thread was about to get the order process completed before the site went down again. The phone lines are jammed and when you get though, there’s an automated message telling you to order online. If you press the wrong options and speak to a human being, they don’t know what the hell is going on because they haven’t been told about the early launch. Idiots! I hope they get a stern b***ocking from Apple about thiat!

i have tried to upgrade several times, ive managed to fill the upgrade form in 4 times to be told the service is unavailable and also i keep getting direct to one of two different webpages. the first upgrade page is just a form to fill in and another is a more polished website. anyone else had this, i rang o2 to enquire which page i should be using to be told just try again, i asked again as this wasnt the question and it would appear o2 have absolutly no idea what is going on as their answer for everything is try again it will work eventually. o2 have forseen the high demand for iphone upgrades so why put a website in place which cannot handle the high demand for use. what a stupid way to upgrade i think. i would of rather visted one of many o2 shops in my city waited in a sensible queue and upgraded instore.

IPHONE 3G IS NOW OUT OF STOCK

well done O2 so now the majority of iphone customers cannot upgrade as told. i rang customer services to ask about stock level and was told that everytime someone registered their instrested on the website an iphone was ordered. so the demand must have been forseen and yet the method outlined for ordering was completley useless and there is clearly not enough iphones to meet customer demand. O2 have really fell on their arses with this one, and i hope someone gets a good bol***king for it as now like many others im guessing have sat for hours fumbling through this c**p order process for no reason.

Grrr! This is indeed ridiculous. I can see the logic in whipping up a marketing storm, but failing to deliver at such a scale its incredibly bad manners to say the least.
Iphone 3G early upgrade online? What a joke. I even phoned up customer services, and they said the upgrade will be available in stores from Friday onwards. I phoned up my local store and spoke to the manager, who admitted that O2 have been directing people to the stores but the stores have yet to receive confirmation on what they are expected to do, so they cannot even guarantee there will be any 3G iPhones in the stores.
O2 have let us down on this one. If they could not manage the interest, they should have not gone through all the motions of “register your interest, order online…” blah blah blah. Pitiful.
