O2 Please let us upgrade in store

July 7, 2008

After a frustrating two hours attempting to upgrade, getting so far then failure we are begging O2 to let current iPhone customers upgrade in store. The online upgrade system is now completely down and according to reports there ares a large number of customers who were not able to upgrade. Please support us by commenting or Digging.

or even allow us to talk to a real person on the phone. This morning was beyond frustrating, I entered my credit card details no less than 4 times. In store would be great phone good too.

I agree with NF even if I can phone up and talk to someone. I am genuinely concerned that I entered my credit card details so many times when signing up and no order. I am hoping I don’t see a bill for £1000 worth of upgrades ?

I received my text at 8.20 ran to the computer, got my code via text and entered my credit card details - there was a problem try again. I then sat for over an hour trying, retrying until the whole thing fell over.

Although, what servers can support a spike in traffic like the entire UK iPhone fan base hitting it at once. They wipped up enough media frenzies to have seen it coming surely ?

Another stupid move from O2, it’s still down and apparoaching 3 hours now. Absolutely ridiculous.

Glad to see I am not the only one then.

Still that does not stop the frustration!!!!

Would be good to upgrade in store, too right.

Let see what they come up with

It is better fun queing anyway ! I say let us goes to stores. It has been well over 90 mins since it went down and no flicker of hope it is coming back up again either.

O2, if you read these pages.

Can you please review the capabilities your web order team and your hosting provider because really, I don’t think that anybody has seen something like this before.

In the meantime, let me order the new iPhone by phone, sms, email, web, store, post so that I can get it on the 11th.

    My patience is exhausted.

    Cheers

    Hi,

Guess what the site is back up but: “there has been an error with the order process”

It actually starts to be funny

While I am not an existing iPhone customer, I am an existing O2 customer and was hoping for the upgrade to the iPhone 3G earlier this morning.

After 3 hours of refreshing and constant website issues, the 16GB iPhone is now sold out!!

It’s a very poor show from O2 and I hope they do allow existing iPhone users to upgrade in store.

  11. clement on July 7th, 2008 11:47 am

    Sold out !!!!!

    Are you sure.

Where did you find out ???

Carphonewarehouse now taking pre-orders from new customers…. current customers are the real losers here.

  13. RogerS on July 7th, 2008 12:00 pm

I thought I read that Apple have insisted that existing iphone users get priority. This appears to not be the case at the moment with O2?

  14. Ben Hughes on July 7th, 2008 2:07 pm

Its really not rocket science. They know how many iPhone users are eligable for upgrading. They kust assume that most (if not all will) as they’re offering the upgrade for free.

They should have staggered out the upgrade messages to users over the next few days to give the site a chance.

Or even if they wanted it all at once, you would have thought they might have tested the service to ensure it could manage the load.

    Come on O2. Step up.

Yeah I tried all morning, got either a screen full of jargon or a page saying try again. I tried for hours!! still nothing, till the point of saying out of stock.

I got my iphone on the day of release and paid damn good money for it!! so i’m very disappointed to not getting an upgrade.

Bring out a better version of the phone so early after release is a kick in the teeth, but not as much as not allowing us to get the bloody new one!

I emailed o2 after a very frustrating hour.

    So far nor reply.

Has anyone heard any good news about the upgrade. seems to me like no-one got confirmation?
