The Tube 2.5 : Webservice

March 4, 2008

Equinux has released The Tube 2.5 with the new TubeToGo webservice. The Tube-users can now make their TV recordings available in an online Webgallery. With the TubeToGo web interface, users have complete access to recordings, can publish them and have the ability to schedule recordings on the go.

Television is mobile
With TubeToGo, The Tube-users can use the internet to have constant access to the TV recordings on their Macs at home. Using the TubeToGo interface, TV recordings can be published so they can be later accessed by a web-connected iPhone, iPod touch or Safari web browser. TubeToGo also includes an EPG which can be used to schedule TV recordings while you’re on-the-go.

After a recording has been completed, The Tube automatically syncs with TubeToGo. Over the web interface users can playback, delete and remove recordings from the Web Gallery. TubeToGo can either store your videos with .Mac or on your own FTP server. To play this video-data on the iPhone, iPod touch or Safari web-browser, a high speed Internet-connection will be needed.

Additional new features and improvements
The Tube 2.5 displays the current viewer levels of other The Tube users as a percentage and also highlights the station with the most viewers. Users that wish to follow their favorite programs alongside their other tasks will surely notice Smart Zoom 2. Just move the mouse over the television picture and the The Tube will automatically zoom the image to a larger size.

As soon as the mouse exits the active TV-Image area, the window will automatically shrink to the same size it was previously. The Tube also sports a new TV engine that improves image quality, even when reception is poor, and also optimizes power consumption.
