We Love EyeTv 2.0

For the last year or so I have been using Elgato’s EyeTv software with my USB TV device. For anyone involved with media studies this software is definitely an essential tool. The built in programme guide (EPG) allows easy recording of upcoming films and even better you can remove every advertisement break in a matter of minutes.One of the big advantages is for clip analysis.Simply record the film you wish to chop, put an in and out marker around the clip you wish to use and use EyeTv to export to nearly every format possible.

If you own an ipod EyeTV exports to ipod (and directly to iTunes) with a single click, and a long wait as it converts but it does so brilliantly. Even if you don’t own an iPod this export tool add your programmes to the iTunes “TV shows” Section for easy viewing.

Elagto Systems really have covered everything. The software comes with a year’s EPG subscription after which it costs a massive £6 a year to renew

Picture-in-Picture
In single-tuner products, watch both live TV and a recording from your EyeTV library at the same time, or two recordings. In dual-tuner products (EyeTV Diversity), watch two live channels or watch one and record another simultaneously.

Built-in, searchable Program Guide (EPG)
EyeTV 2 downloads TitanTV.com (US) and tvtv.com (Europe) online data into its built-in program guide, putting two weeks of detailed and up-to-date TV listings at your fingertips. Navigate through the listing and quickly return to the present date and time with the help of the shortcut menu. The EPG displays a thin grey vertical line to visually indicate the present time. TitanTV is free in the United States, and in Europe, EyeTV 2 includes a free one-year subscription to tvtv.com.

“Invert Markers” command
Have it both ways. The Editor’s action menu now has an “Invert Markers” command so that you can mark your edits and then decide if you want to keep the footage between the markers, or dispense with that and keep the rest of the show instead.

Intelligent export presets and file formats
There’s no need to be an expert in video formats to decide which one is right for you. EyeTV 2 offers a large variety of intelligent choices, simply pick the one that best applies. How do you want to use the recording? On your iPod? Your PSP? iTunes®? iMovie®, iDVD®, or DVD Studio Pro®? EyeTV analyzes your the recording and chooses the optimum export format based on your choice. Of course, if you are an expert EyeTV 2 also allows you choose your own export settings.
