TvGuide : iPhone

When Apple released the new ‘Remote App‘ for iPhone featuring gesture control of both you computer and AppleTV (See our five reasons for AppleTV) media libraries I couldn’t help but get excited.

Controlling your home media setup with a swipe of an iPhone screen is just one of those slightly nerdy things I have to do when we have friends round. Now though the iPhone lends an additional home media hand with the release of  TV Guide.

TVGuide is a simple application that offers the easiest to use EPG I think have seen. On loading, the guide instantly displays the TV programmes are on now and those coming next. Click on a show to get a full synopsis and a rating count.

It couldn’t be easier. The application also offers regional adjustment. The default is London but a quick visit to the settings and were able to set the region appropriately and thus the BBC and ITV channels are instantly adjusted.

As well as cater for regions TVGuide also caters for the various digital TV configurations.

Freesat, Sky and Freeview are all listed so you can limit the guide to the channels appropriate to you.

The refinements don’t end there. Once you have told TVguide the type of home system that controls your TV you can tweak the list of channels removing the ones you are not interested in and even adjust the order so your favourites are at the top.

If I could have two wishes to create my ultimate pocket TVGuide I would add a search option and the ability to set a recording on the various Mac TV systems, a tall order perhaps.

TVGuide is brilliant. It is easy to use, accurate and best of all it is completely free ! Get it now!
