UK iPhone Upgrade Gone Wrong
July 7, 2008
Well after a frustration filled day spent watching spinning wheels on the O2 website or receiving close to twenty text messages with upgrades codes I thought I had finally ordered my upgrade at 2pm this afternoon.
Well I like many others were met with a form to enter our details, phone, account numbers and addresses. After selecting my upgrade and submitting my credit card details I was met with the glorious message thanking me for my order.
In excitement I even ’screen grabbed’ the iMac before me. Once the rush of excitement ebbed I began to feel a little edgy that the message screen didn’t offer any sort of order or reference number. I decided to phone O2. Instantly I was met with a message to say they were out of stock, no consequence to me though I had ordered mine, or so I thought.
Once I managed to get through to an operator a very nice lady was happy to help and deliver the blow that without an order number it is unlikely my order went through.

There was a prolonged pause while she checked my account. The first few words were fine “I can confirm…” but the bad news was she could confirm there was no order attached to my account.
I have always been at the bleeding edge of technology, it has always cost me dearly in expensive handsets somewhat untested software but it has always been worth it. In all this time I am yet to experience a more frustrating day as today. I am actually angry over a phone ! totally silly really.
The fact of the matter is new customers can get their upgrades in store, current O2 customers can get their upgrades in store so why not let them and reserve the online system for the current iPhone customers who have to use it ?
I look at my current iPhone with love, don’t get me wrong I really want the iPhone 3G but today has been a shocker. My advice is, if you think you have ordered your upgrade make sure you have an order reference number at hand ! I don’t
Iphone Out of Stock
O2 Please let us upgrade in store

Its been a really negative day for all today, I feel for everyone, the system in place was just not good enough, simple as that, you can definitely upgrade in store O2 have stated in a press release “To ensure fairness, O2 will sell the device on a strictly first come, first served basis to both new and upgrading customers in all retail outlets.”
No consolation I know
although it has been pointed out that there are two different upgrade camps. The iPhone 1 upgraders and the O2 pay monthly upgraders. I really hope the former can also upgrade in store.
I too had the same cryptic message as you. I spoke to an O2 representative earlier. He said that if i got through to that stage then they will have received my order. All orders placed through the failover order page are undergoing a manual audit tonight/tomorrow, in the order of them receiving each request. Once they have processed each request they will send a confirmation email to the relevant customer. Hopefully will hear something in the next 24 hours.
Hello,
Same as Joe. I have been told that I would know within 24 hours from the time I got that message.
They have 1 hour 30 minutes left. Still nothing in my inbox.
I guess they will get a call.
