Teaching With Comic Life (Download)

Plasq’s Comic Life is a firm favourite in the classroom. Last year all new Macs came with Comic Life pre-installed and any school lucky enough to purchase a new suite will know how much students love the power and ease of use that Comic Life brings to Digital Storytelling.

Well we have been lucky enough to be offered a teaching handout and unit of work for Comic Life. The unit designed for keystage 3 pupils (11-14) looks at the construction of a story, storyboarding, using Comic Life and also the transfer of photos from a phone to the Mac via bluetooth.

The Comic Life tutorial is pretty basic but covers the main aspects of the application and is more than enough to get your students started on their story telling projects. Please note this is a draft task and is copyright the original author. Please link to this article not the download.

Task :
In groups pupils will write and communicate a story using only eight photos and the Comic Life
Application.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this task pupils will be able to use bluetooth to transfer files to and from a computer.
On successful completion of the task pupils will be able use photos taken with a mobile phone in their own documents / coursework etc.
On successful completion of the task pupils will be able to manipulate / resize and filter their photographs.
On successful completion of the task pupils will be able to use suitable software applications to communicate in a range of different ways.

Transferable skills:
Working with others, Organising oneself, Communication, Critical and discriminating skills, Reflection and decision making skills

Resources :
Apple iMac Computer / PC with Comic Life Installed, Digital Camera or Phone.
Note : If you do not have enough digital cameras for your class it is possible to use a camera phone to take the photos and thenApple’s Bluetooth File Transfer system to send the photos from the phone to the Mac.
